Emerson was born in St. Marys, and graduated from Camden County High School. While in high school, she worked at Chick-Fil-A, working her way up to a Certified Trainer. She says, “I was dual enrolled while I was in high school because I took Advanced Placement (AP) higher level courses which allowed me to attend the College of Coastal Georgia where I majored in accounting. I made sure that I worked while I went to school and earned my Associates Degree in Accounting. I wanted to change things up so I worked as an office paraprofessional at Camden Middle School and helped in any area where they needed assistance.”

Emerson married her high school sweetheart, Norman Prescott, who is a Navy Veteran. “He went to bootcamp at Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois.” She says, “We wrote letters to each other to plan our wedding, and he married me in his uniform. At the Bootcamp Liberty Call, we left and drove straight to the court house. Emerson traveled across the country to join her husband and immediately joined the Family Readiness Group (FRG). She says, “This was one of the most wonderful times of my life! The group is an integral part of a support service network that unites key support services such as the ombudsmen, chaplains, school liaison officers and child development centers at the command level. These services provide coordinated support to service members and their families.”

Family Readiness Group’s purpose:
Prepare members for deployments and homecoming.
Provide family support during deployments.
Help families adjust to challenges and to support one
another in times of personal, unit or area crises.
Welcome and mentor members who are new to the Navy Lifestyle.
Coordinate social events, such as holiday celebrations.

Emerson was elected to the Sunshine Chair which she describes as a ‘happy go lucky’ position where her team brought gifts to new families and continued to spread ‘sunshine’ around. She then became the Treasurer and later the President of the FRG for several years. “It was fun, but also very serious because while our spouses were out in the ocean in submarines, we were providing morale and support to the Navy families. We were the lifeline and the one of the liaisons between the families and the USS Nebraska. We were responsible for making sure our families received Phone Tree Messages as well as coordinating events, fundraisers, and Single Sailor Bags which we provided to the Sailors who may not have had a halfway night bag with them. Because my husband and I had children, he decided to exit the Navy after his active- duty service commitment, so he could be with his family instead of being out on long deployments, so we moved back to Georgia.”

Emerson’s dad was employed as a Nuclear Mechanic in the Navy, and when he retired, he joined her mom, who was a REALTOR and they eventually opened their own brokerages during COVID where Emerson helped with accounting as well as administrative work and soon got her real estate license and became a member of the Georgia Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. “I love everything about real estate. She says, “There’s no better feeling like meeting someone and watching them fall in love with a home. Realtors are also counselors, therapists, counselors, and mediators between spouses. We fight for our clients and go the extra mile for them and often work late at night doing contracts. There’s so much that we do behind the scenes that many people are unaware of and I’m so grateful that my parents taught me such a great work ethic because real estate is a very complicated profession and you must be on top of everything all the time.”

Emerson is proud to have her Military Relocation Professional (MRP) Certification because she’s lived the life.
